HTML5 gaining momentum

We're seeing a lot of comment and activity related to the latest HTML/CSS versions, HTML5 and CSS3. Thing is, they need the latest browser versions so the news features won't be widespread immediately. Look out for forthcoming articles....

Biggest search engine myth

So much is written and discussed about search engines because they're such an important part of your online marketing mix.

The fact that none of the major search engines reveal exactly how they go about ranking sites just adds more debate on what is needed to improve your site's position.

Having said that, there is one thing we come across time and time again which people are convinced will help them significantly with their search engine ranking. And it's a myth.

It's also an approach that could harm your site, not help it.

No Flash for iPhone

The iPhone truly is a fantastic piece of technology and having had one for a few months, it's difficult to imagine not having all the productivity facilities it gives you.

One thing that has always been missing though has been the ability of the iPhone ( iPod and iPad, too) to run the Adobe Flash animation software on its browser.

Millions of websites use Flash (including Blot Design) to add effects like moving pictures and words to web pages and this animation simply does not appear when viewed in an iPhone browser.

Apple have said previously they would add it to the iPhone, but this month Flash seems to be 'off the menu' as far as Apple and Adobe are concerned.

Free Edinburgh Wi-Fi

We first started using Wi-Fi back in 2000 with a few adapters bought in the US.

It's changed a lot since then and one of the most useful developments has been free Wi-Fi spots in offices, hotels, cafes and restaurants.

They make it so easy to have a meeting with online content, check email, even make Skype calls etc. but it's still sometimes difficult to locate a free hot spot.

There are plenty in and around Edinburgh, and here's a list. If you know of others, contact us and we'll be glad to update the list.
