How to fix the broken capital W in Internet Explorer

Here’s one that only a web designer anorak could come up with.

If you’re interested in web design professionally, you’ll know that the different browsers operate slightly differently. It’s much better than it used to be, as the standards defined by organisations like WC3 have been largely adopted.

Web design with multiple sites and IIS

As a web design company, we often have multiple web site developments in various states of development. The easiest way to manage this is to have a web server on our individual PCs and have multiple web sites running on the web server.

Web design Norton ad-blocking gotcha

Here’s a little ad-blocking problem from Norton that we came across recently which should be a concern to web designers everywhere and web users in general.

Symantec’s Norton Internet Security (NIS) product is a fine product with lots of great features. We believe there is one though, that goes a little too far.

Templated web sites - the case against

Web design can have different approaches. At Blot Design our approach is to provide a professional, customised approach to design and development. We take time to understand our client’s requirements and preferences and use design skillls to create something unique that reflects their values.

An alternative approach is to use pre-designed web site templates or more precisely, web site generators that use a choice of templates. In the past we have tried this type of approach, and while there may be some scenarios where they will give an acceptable solution, our experience is that you should never use them unless you understand (more…)
