No future for pop-ups?

It used to be a great way to get attention - when a visitor comes to your site, pop up a new window on top of the page that highlights some special information.

Some people had to overdo it though, plastering the screen with pop-up windows and driving the visitor crazy. Pop ups have become associated with dodgy sites and spamming. So firewall and virus checking software started to provide blocking software which stopped the popups. These days Google and Yahoo toolbars come with pop up blockers and Internet Explorer 7 comes with a blocker set up by default to block popups.

Getting to page #1 on Google

Regular readers will know that we are always exploring and recommending ways to improve your search engine rankings. We’ve talked about keyword phrases, content, site architecture, tags, articles, links, directories etc. Now here’s a good example of a client’s site that has pretty much nailed all of these things. Funnily enough, they now find themselves on page #1 of Google UK!

Don’t use PDF instead of web pages

There are more and more programs around these days that will convert documents into PDF (Portable Document Format). PDF files are cropping up on web sites all over the place and we are seeing situations where web pages are replaced by PDF files for on screen reading. Multi-language web sites for wider marketing reach

If your website is available in foreign languages, it gives your company a wider marketing reach and can generate more revenues for you.

“Sure”, you say, “but we only operate in the local marketplace”.

Well, that might true but the fact is that multiculturalism has come to the UK and Scotland in particular, and you might be missing out on business if you ignore it.
