Google speed limit

Google speed limitIn the business world, nothing can be done quick enough. Doesn’t matter if it’s getting that order, moving office or launching that new product. Everyone wants things yesterday.

Websites are no exception. When you decide you need to improve the ranking of your website, you want it done fast!

It has always taken time to improve Google rankings because of things like the old periodic Google Dance update and a delay filter in recognising links. But these days you must exercise as much possible of that rare commodity - patience! (more…)

Domain name delirium

A recurring theme in our business is the tricks people think will help improve their rankings on the search engines. I think this is a mix of human nature always looking for a ’silver bullet’, and past history where it was possible to improve search engine results by doing quick, secret and magical ‘under the hood’ tweaks to websites.

Quite a few years ago tennis player Andre Agassi came up with a media quote that has probably come back to haunt him as he got older.  He said, “Image is Everything”.

Templated web sites - the case against

Web design can have different approaches. At Blot Design our approach is to provide a professional, customised approach to design and development. We take time to understand our client’s requirements and preferences and use design skillls to create something unique that reflects their values.

An alternative approach is to use pre-designed web site templates or more precisely, web site generators that use a choice of templates. In the past we have tried this type of approach, and while there may be some scenarios where they will give an acceptable solution, our experience is that you should never use them unless you understand (more…)

Cuban Artist Danilo Vinardell - multimedia CD

Danilo Vinardell multimedia CDWe’ve just completed an interesting multimedia project for a client. It’s a multimedia CD showcasing the abstract paintings of Cuban painter Danilo Vinardell. He is represented in Europe by a Scotsman and an Irishman who came across the artist by chance during a holiday to Havana (La Habana).

A multimedia CD is a great way to promote your business or help sell products. You can hand them out at tradeshows and exhibitions, post them to potential clients as part of a mailshot or as a follow-up to an enquiry. It provides a visual and audible sell to your clients that words alone cannot convey. And it can be played over and over if the content is interesting. (more…)
