How important is your meta description?
Apparently, Google looks for the text in the / of the
page first and displays an extract with the search
words highlighted. If it doesn't find something that it is
happy with, it chooses the meta description. If it can't
find the page at all, then it chooses a description from
a directory such as DMOZ.
So there we have it, the meta description is really not
that important for Google (it is for others, though)

Minimalism web design for Acme Creative

Acme Creative are an Edinburgh design company with
a client portfolio that is, as they say, 'to die for'.
Their
experience of blue chip companies includes the Royal
Bank of Scotland, Shell, Scottish and Newcastle, to
name a few. They are particularly active in the
hospitality market, producing design work for hotels,
resorts and restaurants.
When it came to a web site, they wanted something
simple, yet eyecatching, with all the key information
close to hand. And they wanted to be able to update it
easily themselves. Our development uses Javascript,
DHTML and Ajax technologies to show the
information - all on one page!!

Tread carefully with Web 2.0

We keep hearing about Web 2.0 and how it is going to
make life on the Web much easier/better/quicker for
everyone.
That may well be true, but we've
been doing a bit of development that falls into the Web
2.0 bucket and have discovered a few practical traps
for young players.
The key thing is that you have to choose the
technology to use carefully having considered whether
the users will understand what is going on and
whether there is a need to ensure that search engines
are properly looked after.
