Google looking like Big Brother?
The deal that Google won from under the noses
of Microsoft, now faces a review from the US
Federal Trade Commission.
In April,
Microsoft won control of DoubleClick, an
online advertising company, in a deal worth
£1.6bn. Several industry rivals, including
Microsoft, have raised objections to the deal
on the grounds that it gives Google too much
information about our surfing habits and also
that a conflict arises because they are both
a seller and buyer of online advertising.
So far, nothing seems to have stopped
Google's dominance, but maybe the FTC will
put the brakes on this deal.
The story...

Zero Tolerance Take Control

We've recently completed a job for the Zero
Tolerance Charitable Trust, an
organisation that campaigns for the
prevention of male violence against women
and children.
They have a great website, designed by
our friends at Waterbomb.
However their news, campaign and event
information change very frequently
and they wanted to be able to update it
themselves. A perfect scenario for
the Blot
Content Management System!
We
fitted our
CMS to the existing
website and now they can look after their own
updates instantaneously.
So, remember if you want to take control of a
site you run, we can retrofit our CMS to
almost any website, just ask us how.

Email (very) big files - free

For companies and individuals who often need
to email large files here's a great free
service Colin Read at Davidson Read
Associates told us about.
It's called MailBigFile. If your ISP puts a
cap on the size of files you're allowed to
send, it will let you send files up to 100mb
in size - at no charge.
And there are Pro and Business versions (of
course they're not free) that will let you
send up to 2Gb and brand with your own
company logo.

Visitor's Day at BNI

Blot Design is a member of BNI, the most
successful
business networking group in the world.
Each week we meet to exchange and refer
business between our members. It's a great
way of
doing business (only one company from any
business area can
join,
so there is no competition between members).
We're always looking for businesses to join
our group and we are having a Visitor's
Day this Thursday (7th June).
There will
be around 40 people there, all interested in
growing their business.
Here's some of the business categories we are
aiming to fill:
- Public Relations
- Architect
- Travel Agent
- Physio
- Chiropractor
- Shop
- Vehicle Leasing
- Office Supplies
- Interior Designer
- Sign Maker
If you'd like to
attend as a guest and see if the meeting
could work for your business, please get in
touch.
