Web 2.0 - here comes the revolution

Someone's got to clean it!

Let's get niche specific
Every month we see a lot of web sites. Some are very successful with search engines and some not so.

There can be lots of reasons why a site isn't successful but one we often see is when the site contains a lot of information that is similar to other sites, or uses words that are in common use.

There are two things that happen in these cases. First, the web site has to compete with all the other web sites that are similar and second, the site won't rank very high in the search engines because some of the others will have been optimised. Bottom line will be that there won't be much new visitor traffic coming to the site.

The way around this is to try and make your site more unique. Being very specific about what you do can help. If you have a niche, use it. There will be less competition and therefore you have a better chance in the search engine bun fight.

Welcome to our last newsletter of 2006, Christmas is coming....

  • Been working hard? Relax!
  • We’ve just completed the first phase of the web site for Scotland hot tub and spa supplier, Advanced Arctic Spas.

The site showcases their hot tubs for Edinburgh and Borders markets and their range of hot tub chemicals and accessories.

The company is expanding rapidly, with a new 7000 sq ft showroom in Newtown St Boswells (including a wet area where you can try out the spas), another showroom planned for Edinburgh next year and additions to the web site to allow for online purchase of accessories.

Feel like you've worked hard this year? Well, maybe you should treat yourself to some relaxation.

Read some comments from Advanced Arctic Spas' satisfied hot tub customers, then get in touch.

  • Web 2.0 - here comes the revolution
  • Don't you just hate the web industry?

Most companies have only just got their heads round what the World Wide Web is, how to surf it and maybe dipped their toes in the water with a company web site that promotes their business, when BAM!, people are talking about Web 2.0.

What on earth is Web 2.0?

Well, the strange thing is that it is not anything specifically. There is no one new technology that sums up what it is about at all.

It is more about how the Internet is evolving from the original web of static websites that simply provided information, to an Internet of websites that is characterised by social interaction, participation, personalisation, sharing, containing multimedia, and is dynamic.

Yes, there are newer technologies involved such as Ajax, SOAP, RSS, blogs, podcasts etc, but just think of it as the continued evolution of the Internet.

What can you do about it? Well you can't stop it, it's progress. Just make sure you continue to work with go-ahead companies like Blot Design!
