A Few Vistors More
The search engine business is one of the most
misunderstood areas on the Internet. Almost
everyone has opinions about how to get good
rankings, and a lot of them are plain wrong!
When it comes to search engine optimisation, it's just
like the movies - there are good guys and bad guys.
They both want the same thing for their customers -
A Few Vistiors More. But the bad guys will
use 'black hat' techniques that are usually short term
and could easily get
sites banned.
How do you spot the bad guys? Below are some tips
from Google to avoid companies who
- use hidden text or hidden links.
- employ cloaking or sneaky redirects
- create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains
with substantially duplicate content
- put links to their other clients on doorway
pages
- guarantee ranking
- have had domains removed from Google's index
- are not listed by Google

The Voga webshop goes online

Dr
Who, science kits, gadgets - the Voga shop in Edinburgh is an Aladdin's cave
of goodies for young and (especially) older. We have
just completed their ecommerce webshop
and now you
can buy Daleks, Cybermen, Captain Scarlet and a
whole lot more,
online at Voga.
The website uses a graphic design from our friends at
Waterbomb and the Blot eCommerce system.
Martin at Voga got the product catalogue of
around 600 products entered in an extraordinarily
quick time using our content management system
and now they can take orders from the Internet,
24hrs a day.
So, the next time you're looking for a new Dalek Talking Bottle Opener, you know
where to go!

Google spreadsheets

One of the great things about competition is that
competitors are always thinking up ways to make
themselves better than the opposition.
We, the consumers, should always be the
beneficiaries of this.
In the search engine world we have Google, Yahoo
and MSN battling it out and each of them keep
coming up with new things they hope will bring them
more users and therefore more advertising revenues.
Google are introducing Google Spreadsheets - a
hosted service where you can store your
spreadsheets online, collaborate with others in real
time on the same spreadsheet and decide who can
see them and who can't.
Useful? It might be able to save you time if you
have a need for central data that needs to be
updated by several people. Or it might just be
another advertising gimmick!
